Comics Palooza

The Museum of Printing is excited to announce an exhibit entitled “Comics Palooza: A Serious History of the Funnies.” This exhibit will kick off with a special event taking place on the weekend of September 24/25. The Museum will be open as usual from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, September 24th, but due to high anticipated levels of interest, we will also be open on Sunday, September 25th, also from 10 am to 4 pm.

You are invited to the Museum for a weekend of talks and exhibits presenting the history and methodologies of creation and production for comics. The exhibit will highlight rare newspaper and comic book issues and show how they evolved and were produced. Speakers will include author Will Murray, illustrators Jesse Lundberg and Matt Crafton, and Museum of Printing President Frank Romano.

Schedule of Events

Rare comics will be on display throughout the weekend from 10 am to 4 pm each day.

Saturday, September 24

Will Murray, Jesse Lundberg, and Matt Crafton will be available throughout the day to discuss their work.

  • 8:30–9:30 am: Set Up
  • 10:00 am: Doors open to the public
  • Noon: Panel discussion on comics featuring Will Murray, Jesse Lundberg, and Matt Crafton
  • 3:00 pm: Frank Romano will lecture on Comics Production
  • 4:00 pm: Doors close

Sunday, September 25

  • 10:00 am: Doors open to the public
  • 1:00 pm: Frank Romano Lecture on Comics Production
  • 4:00 pm: Doors close

About the Comics Palooza panel

The speakers on the Comics Palooza panel are:

  • Will Murray is the author of nearly 75 novels, including some 20 posthumous Doc Savage collaborations with Lester Dent, and 40 books in the long-running Destroyer series. For Marvel Comics, Murray created the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl with legendary Spider-Man artist Steve Ditko. More on Murray can be found on this website at www.adventuresinbronze.com.
  • Illustrator and graphic artist Jesse Lundberg is a familiar face at many New England based Comic Conventions, most recently at the Granite State Comic Con in Manchester, New Hampshire. For more on Lundberg, visit his web site at www.lundberggraphics.com.
  • New Hampshire-based sci-fi illustrator Matt Crafton builds on themes from astronomy, science, and myth. His artwork is heavily inspired by video games, books, and movies. Check out his work on his web site, www.spacevikingproductions.com.
  • Museum of Printing President Frank Romano is the author of more than 60 books on topics related to the printing industry including History of the Linotype Company, History of the Phototypesetting Era, and History of Desktop Publishing, and his most recent book, History of the Ludlow Typograph.

The Museum of Printing is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the graphic arts, printing and typesetting technology, and printing craftsmanship.
